Bhumi Pednekar voices support for young protester facing rape and death threats: ‘Hum sab sirf ek hi cheez chahte hain ki desh ki progress ho, desh ka bhala ho’

Bhumi Pednekar, who has been making headlines over her outspoken views on the ongoing CJP protests, has now shared another video addressing the growing culture of online abuse. Days after her remarks on the language used during the protests sparked a heated debate on social media, the actor shifted focus to the psychological impact of harassment and urged people to engage in conversations with empathy and respect. In the latest video posted on her social media, Bhumi spoke about a young protester who allegedly became the target of horrific online threats after a video of her interview went viral. Recalling the incident, Bhumi said, “Maine internet par ek video dekhi jahan ek young ladki, jo protest ka hissa thi, interview de rahi thi. Woh video viral ho gaya aur uske baad se use lagataar rape threats aur death threats mil rahe hain.” (I came across a video online of a young woman who was part of the protest and was giving an interview. The video went viral, and ever since then, she has been receiving continuous rape threats and death threats)She went on to explain how such abuse can have a lasting effect on a person’s well-being.”Agar sirf ek video ki wajah se itni harassment jhelni padti hai, toh main aapko bata bhi nahi sakti ki public figures ko kis had tak online abuse ka saamna karna padta hai. Iska kisi ki mental health par kitna gehra aur lambe samay tak rehne wala asar hota hai, yeh log aksar samajhte hi nahi.” (If someone has to endure so much harassment because of just one video, then I can’t even begin to tell you the extent of online abuse public figures have to face. People often fail to understand how deeply it affects a person’s mental health and how long-lasting its impact can be)

Bhumi Pednekar calls for unity instead of hostility

Bhumi concluded her message by appealing for constructive conversations instead of hostility. She said, “Hum sab sirf ek hi cheez chahte hain ki desh ki progress ho, desh ka bhala ho. Agar hum sab ekjut hokar, ekta ke saath, apni baat sahi tareeke se rakhenge, tabhi hum sach mein positive badlav dekh payenge.” (All of us want just one thing: the progress and well-being of our country. If we come together in unity and express our views in the right manner, only then will we be able to see real and positive change.)Her latest statement has once again generated discussion online, with many debating her views on public discourse and social media behaviour.

Bhumi Pednekar’s earlier remarks on protest language triggered criticism

Bhumi recently came under fire after commenting on the abusive slogans and language directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the NEET-UG 2026 protests, which continued for over a month at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. In an Instagram video, the actor expressed concern over the tone adopted in several viral protest clips, saying that while everyone has the right to express dissent, personal insults directed at the country’s highest constitutional office do not reflect India’s values. She had said, “Looking at the videos surfacing now, the kind of language being used, and the way the youth of our country are speaking… the youth of our country.”

Social media divided over Bhumi’s stand

While some users supported Bhumi’s appeal for civil discourse, many others criticised her for not addressing allegations that protesting students were beaten, lathi-charged and fired upon during the Sansad March on July 20. Her comments were labelled “selective” by a section of social media users, who argued that her message overlooked the grievances and hardships faced by the students. With her latest video focusing on online harassment and mental health, Bhumi has once again found herself at the centre of a larger conversation surrounding protests, free speech and responsible engagement on social media.
