Quote of the day by Irrfan: ‘Don’t take your plans seriously’

Quote of the day by Irrfan Khan: 'Don't take your plans so seriously, let the road decide where we go'

In his timeless wisdom, late actor Irrfan Khan shared a refreshing take on life’s unpredictability that still captivates audiences today. He encouraged a laid-back approach, famously saying, ‘Your plans are mere suggestions; allow the universe to guide you.’ Khan’s philosophy inspires us to dance with life’s serendipities, advocating for a blend of spontaneity and trust in the unseen paths ahead.

Irrfan Khan was one of the most talented actors in Hindi cinema. The actor entertained the audience with his funny antics as well as layered performances in movies. The actor even made India proud by featuring in several Hollywood films. But beyond the limelight and acting prowess, he was a father to his son, Babil Khan, and a loving husband to his wife, Sutapa Sikdar. And sometimes what he said off the screen was more valuable than what he performed on screen. For example, during his interview with Koel Purie for Headlines Today, he shared a line about life that was etched in the audience’s hearts. When the host asked during the couch ride interview, “Where are we going?” The actor replied, “Don’t take your plans so seriously. Let the road decide where we go.”

What does the late Irrfan Khan’s quote of the day mean?

“Don’t take your plans so seriously. We already have a design for you”The actor said this line in an interview over a decade ago. In the same conversation, he added that one cannot depend on anybody, as no one in the world understands a person better than the individual does. His words suggest that life often unfolds beyond anyone’s control. No matter what plans a person makes, life will present unexpected circumstances that change the intended path. His words about a design being in place imply that a larger force—whether fate, destiny, or the natural flow of life—guides our journey. And hence, instead of stressing too much about rigid plans, his words encourage everyone to stay flexible, accept uncertainty, and trust that things may eventually fall into place in ways we might not have imagined. He also aluded how our job is to just recognize those nudges, which keep coming at us.
