Priyanka Chopra says ‘cooking and cleaning aren’t women’s work’; calls out household gender roles

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has sparked a conversation about gender bias at home, delivering a sharp takedown of household stereotypes. The actress emphasised that the chores should not be viewed as a woman’s responsibility alone.

Priyanka Chopra on gender roles

According to the India Today report, speaking at Cannes Lions, Priyanka Chopra challenged the deeply ingrained attitude that cooking, cleaning, and managing daily household responsibilities are a woman’s domain. Priyanka was direct and unapologetic in her stance. “Cleaning and cooking aren’t women’s work. They’re basic adulting. Don’t confuse gender with laziness,” she said. The comment struck a chord online, resonating with audiences who have long debated the unequal distribution of domestic labour in households across the world. Priyanka’s view was clear: these are life skills, not gendered obligations.

Priyanka Chopra on the changing face of storytelling

Priyanka also reflected on how rapidly the entertainment landscape has evolved, crediting technology for democratising access to filmmaking. “If you wanted to get into filmmaking, you used to have to figure out what department you wanted to be in. It was really hard to get into the industry,” she said. She went on to praise the rise of independent creators, adding that if you “feel like you have an idea, shoot it, put it on YouTube, and it can become Obsession, the movie that just came out right now. What a wonderful time to be an entertainer, to be in the entertainment business.” She cited the success of Hollywood supernatural horror Obsession as a prime example of what is now possible for storytellers.

Priyanka Chopra to collaborate with Angelina Jolie

In an interview with Fortune India, Priyanka confirmed that she is set to work with Angelina Jolie on a new project, though she chose to keep the details under wraps, declining to reveal whether it is a film, a commercial campaign, or a philanthropic initiative. The mere mention of the pairing has already generated significant buzz globally.

Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming projects

Beyond the Angelina Jolie collaboration, Priyanka is also set to launch a new venture alongside actor Orlando Bloom. She will additionally be seen in director SS Rajamouli’s ambitious upcoming film ‘Varanasi’, which stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Go to Source
