'Patriot' new release date OUT: Mammootty and Mohanlal's film to release on May

Mollywood titans Mammootty and Mohanlal’s highly anticipated actioner ‘Patriot’ has a new release date. The spy thriller, initially slated for April 23, will now premiere worldwide on May 1, 2026. This strategic shift allows filmmakers more time for final touches, positioning the film for an early summer slot. Fans eagerly await the reunion of the stars.

After a long gap, the Mollywood superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal are teaming up for the actioner ‘Patriot’. On the last day, the fans were quite worried, when the release date was pushed from April.According to the latest updates, ‘Patriot’ has got a new release date. The spy action drama will now hit theatres on May 1, 2026. It was earlier set for April 23 but got postponed.

Mammootty shares the news

Mammootty posted the update himself. He wrote, “Patriot in cinemas worldwide from May 01, 2026.” The makers decided to delay the film by a few days and this gives them more time to complete the final work properly. The new May 1 date puts the movie in a good early summer slot.

What ‘Patriot’ is about

‘Patriot’ is a spy action drama based on a controversial intelligence mission and it brings Mammootty and Mohanlal together on screen after almost ten years.Mammootty’s announcement got plenty of comments from fans. One wrote, “All the best #lalettan #mammu Team patriot.”Another one wrote, “4 days opening weekend better. Now you can see atleast ₹20 cr difference. Big opportunity will be missed.” Another one commented, “Aww ! Waiting.” Another comment read, “Waiting for this movie long time.” Most fans seem excited about the new date, even though majority complain about the low promotions given to this highly awaited actioner.Earlier the makers had shared the trailer for the movie, which promised a high voltage action flick.

Mohanlal’s next release

Mohanlal also has ‘Drishyam 3’ coming up. The third part of the popular franchise is directed by Jeethu Joseph and is scheduled to release on May 21, 2026. This means fans will get two big Mohanlal films in the same month.Meanwhile, ‘Patriot’ also features Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban, and Fahadh Faasil in pivotal roles.
