Actress Padmini Kapila has shared screen space with actors like Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan but because of certain wrong choices, her career didn’t take the path she would have ideally wanted. Padmini was rumoured to be in a relationship with actor Navin Nischol who was already married. In a recent interview, she has opened up on those rumours of causing trouble in his marriage. Navin was married to Neelima, Shekhar Kapur’s sister. Padmini is known for movies like ‘Shaan’, ‘Woh Main Nahin’, ‘Dera Aashqan Da’ and ‘Intezaar’. Reacting to it, she said during a chat with Lehren Retro, “He was charming. You just think you are 17 years old and you sign a film opposite Navin Nischol who was a star that time. He was a ladies man and during ‘Intezaar’, he used to sit behind the camera and watch, so what is one do you’re too young actually it’s not love, love. I felt on he’s such a big star and he’s so much in awe of me, keeps watching me and all that, so it was that nothing else!” When asked if that caused a ripple in his marriage, she denied it. Padmini said, “No not really. It wasn’t just me. He’s not there now so one shouldn’t talk about it but he was involved with friend’s wife that was the turning point. Don’t blame me.” She was further asked about her involvement with director Prakash Mehra (already a married man) as well, who directed films like ‘Laawaris’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ among others. She said, “I don’t regret anything.” She was further asked by journalist Bharati S Pradhan in this chat, that Mehra said in an interview to her that ‘wife is wife, girlfriend is girlfriend.’ Padmini admitted that it was after this statement that she decided to move on and not be with him. “I didn’t want a life like that. I wanted a family.” She also added that if she had to say something to the young Padmini, she would tell her to not get involved with a married man. “Bilkul mat karna. But you don’t plan these things. You get involved but you learn bitter lessons.” Padmini also agreed that the men in her life, Navin and then Prakash did not help her in her career. Mehra directed some big movies but did not cast her. Reacting to it, Padmini said, “I heard him telling someone that badi film mein lunga toh haath se nikal jayegi. That was very hurtful, you cannot say that.” Padmini was last seen in JP Dutta’s ‘Refugee’.
