‘Baahubali: The Torchbearer’ is a documentary on the hit ‘Bahubali’ franchise by SS Rajamouli, all set for release later this week.
At the time of their release, SS Rajamouli’s epic film, ‘Baahubali,’ and its sequel were the biggest blockbuster films in the industry. While more than ten years have passed since the hit films were released in theatres, fans haven’t forgotten them. Now, offering a look behind the scenes, ‘Baahubali: The Torchbearer’ is a documentary about the hit franchise set for OTT release. Here is what we know so far about the upcoming documentary series.
What is ‘Baahubali: The Torchbearer’
While there were earlier questions about whether it related to either of the films or to ‘Baahubali: The Epic,’ later announcements clarified that it would be a documentary series about the filming of ‘Baahubali’ and its impact on the actors.In conversation with Gulte, producer Shobu Yarlagadda had earlier teased the project to fans and gave some information about the documentary. He hinted that the project examines the impact the film had on the actors and its overall cultural significance over the years. He also revealed that many beloved cast and crew members will be part of the documentary; however, the names of the participants were never confirmed. The producer also clued the public in that the project is being released as a 10-year celebration of the ‘Baahubali’ franchise.

Created by SS Rajamouli, who is also known for his work on ‘RRR’ and ‘Magadheera,’ ‘Baahubali’ is an epic franchise set around the fictional and ancient town of Mahishmati. The franchise centres on two cousins vying to claim the throne, no matter the cost. The first two films were released in 2015 and 2017, followed by two animated series based on the film, a graphic novel, and a trilogy of novels in English.The leading cast for the film included names like Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
