Odessa A’Zion reveals audition for ‘The Little Mermaid’ was ‘embarrassing’ for her: ‘I forgot the lyrics’

In a candid moment at the Oscars, actress Odessa A’Zion recounted her most cringe-worthy audition tale for Disney’s live-action adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ While trying out for the iconic role of Ariel, she completely blanked on the lyrics to ‘Part of Your World’ amidst a wave of nerves, leaving her feeling mortified.

Halle Bailey’s performance on ‘The Little Mermaid’ was heavily praised; however, behind the scenes, a lot of things were going on. During the audition process, many people tried out their luck to play any one of the many characters in the live-action film, including ‘Marty Supreme’ star Odessa A’zion. In a recent interview, the actress revealed that she had a rather embarrassing audition for the ‘Little Mermaid.’Read ahead to see what she had to share about the incident.

While attending the 98th Oscars, A’Zion got candid about her audition experiences, including the time that she tried her luck to play the red-haired mermaid from ‘The Little Mermaid.’ She opened up about the matter to Variety, where she talked about how, during one of her auditions for the role, she ended up forgetting the lyrics to one of the main songs. Talking about the worst audition experience of her life, the actress added, “I sang ‘Part of Your World.’ I was so nervous that I forgot the lyrics to ‘Part of Your World’ while I was singing it. Then they were like, ‘Just do it normal.’ I couldn’t do it normal, I’d memorized it in that voice. I left like, ‘That was the most embarrassing thing on planet Earth.’”Odessa concluded that it was one of the most “embarrassing” auditions of her life, and that she was never even contacted by the team for anything after she walked out of the room. Odessa is not the only big name who tried her hand at landing a role in ‘The Little Mermaid.’ A while ago, singer Lizzo shared a video of her audition tape on her socials, which has since then been private. She revealed that she had auditioned to play Ursula, which ultimately went to Melissa McCarthy.

About ‘The Little Mermaid’

‘The Little Mermaid’ was a 2023 live-action film derived from the animated character. The film starred Halle Bailey as Ariel, the lead character, while other big names such as Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem, and Awkwafina were also cast in the film.
