Nikki Glaser explains why she won’t target Kylie Jenner

Golden Globes 2026: Here’s why Nikki Glaser is planning to keep ‘hands off’ from roasting Kylie Jenner at the awards

The Golden Globes are coming up again on January 11, 2026, and Nikki Glaser is back as host for the second year in a row. She’s got a reputation for sharp, fearless comedy — and yeah, she’s not afraid to go after the big names. But this time around, she’s making a point of not targeting Kylie Jenner. So, why the holdback? Glaser, now 41, recently talked about her approach. Sure, Jenner is everywhere lately — her businesses, her relationship with Timothée Chalamet, all of it — but as reported by several outlets, Glaser says she isn’t interested in making any jokes around her. It’s not because Jenner’s off-limits or too famous to touch. It really comes down to respect.

Respect over roast

In the interviews leading up to the show, Glaser explained her rule: if someone’s not up for an award or isn’t there because of their work, she’d rather not make them a punchline. She feels that going after plus-ones like Jenner just isn’t fair. They’re not the focus, so why single them out? There’s also this softer side to Glaser’s thinking. She mentioned seeing Jenner and Chalamet sharing a genuinely sweet moment at the Critics’ Choice Awards. That stuck with her. Glaser said it made her rethink the idea of turning their relationship into a joke. She saw something real there, and honestly, she thinks the audience did too. Nobody wants to see that get torn down just for a cheap laugh. In fact, Nikki told Yahoo Entertainment in an interview, “There seems to be so much fodder there,“ adding, “I haven’t written a joke yet, we’re still five days out, but that moment between them at the Critics’ Choice Awards was so sweet.”That’s not all.Nikki also said, “Anyone who maybe rolled their eyes at their relationship is kind of on board now more than ever,” adding, “I know her from The Kardashians, and I feel like she’s my friend. I don’t want to go hard on her.”

Comedy — with compassion and consideration

That doesn’t mean Glaser’s going easy on everyone. She’s still working up plenty of material for the show, and she’s excited to poke fun at the nominees and the whole Hollywood scene. But she wants to keep the comedy inclusive — funny, clever, and sharp, but not mean-spirited. In her words, respect matters. Audiences these days respond way better to jokes that bring people in rather than push them out. Now, this style isn’t new for Glaser. She likes to road-test her jokes at LA comedy clubs before bringing them to the big stage. She’s always looking for that sweet spot — enough bite to get a laugh, but not so much that the room feels uncomfortable. She’s even said she’ll be extra thoughtful with jokes about stars she really admires, like Julia Roberts or Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s all about finding the balance between good-natured fun and crossing a line.Talking to Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Nikki said, “You cannot make fun of America’s Sweetheart. So, whatever I end up saying about her, that is the most fine-tuned joke that I’ve worked on so hard, because it is very delicate.”

Looking back at her track record

After her first Golden Globes gig in 2025, Glaser got a lot of love for just this approach. People liked that she could be bold and warm at the same time. That’s what she’s aiming for again this year — making the night feel lively and celebratory, not awkward or mean.In her words, “You have to be very delicate about making jokes that aren’t going to ruin anyone’s night.” Nikki added, “But you also want to give the people at home something to laugh at, and you want to poke fun at the people that they’re dying for you to make fun of. People at home want you to make fun of the A-listers.” So, this time, don’t expect her to skip the jokes altogether. She’s still got plenty to say about Hollywood, and nobody expects her to pull all her punches. But when it comes to Jenner — someone with a huge following who’s had some positive moments lately — Glaser just doesn’t see the point in going after her. Go to Source
