Nick Jonas' 'sister' Maya Kibbel passes away after battle with Wilson's disease; singer mourns her demise

Maya Kibbel, a childhood friend and neighbour of the Jonas Brothers, passed away at the age of 30, after battling the rare genetic condition Wilson’s disease.

Kibbel passed away on March 7, according to a statement shared by her mother, Kiyoko Kibbel, on social media. In the emotional post, Kiyoko wrote, “It is with great sorrow that I have to post this sad news. Maya had been suffering from a rare disease called Wilson’s disease. She fought hard but her body gave out. Early on 3/7, she collapsed and her heart and lungs stopped working. It was too late and she passed away in the ER.” “She had suffered so much that often she would cry herself to sleep due to her pain,” the post continued. “But now she has entered into Heaven where she can be with her daddy with no more pain or tears.”

Maya Kibbel’s mother pens note to her friends

Sending out a note to all of Maya’s friends, she wrote, “Those of you who knew her and can’t believe she is gone, please know she is in the best place ever! I know she is watching over all of you from up above.”Kiyoko concluded her tribute saying, “As her mom of 30 years, I miss her terribly and am heartbroken. My comfort is knowing she is no longer suffering. Love and prayers to you all!”

Nick Jonas mourns Maya Kibbel’s demise

Kibbel shared a close bond with the Jonas family while growing up and remained especially close to Nick Jonas. As per reports, the two grew up as ‘siblings’. Reacting to the post, the singer paid tribute in the comments, writing, “My sister forever. Here for you always @coach_kibbel.”

Fans pay tribute to Maya

From growing up together to spending Christmas together, attending gigs and going about their lives together, the Kibbel family often treated fans to throwback posts from Nick’s growing-up years with their daughter Maya. Sharing a photo from their Christmas together, Kibbel wrote, “Throughout all these years and living separate lives across the world, they have kept in touch and kept their friendship. That’s how it is with friends and family! No matter what happens in the world, we care and love each other. What comfort to know someone cares and loves you as we experienced something we have never had this year!”After Nick’s message, fans also took to the comments section to post notes of love for Maya’s grieving mother and share her photos from her time together with Nick, Joe and Kevin.
