Veteran actress Neena Gupta has made a candid admission about her marriage to chartered accountant Vivek Mehra, revealing that it was not driven by romance but by circumstance. In a recent conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Neena was asked a simple yet loaded question — did she marry for love? Laughing lightly, she responded, “This is a very difficult question.”She then added, “I don’t understand love. I only understand the love I have for my child. I don’t understand anything else.”
“Jarrurat thi, bahut”
When further asked why she decided to marry Vivek Mehra, Neena replied with striking honesty. She said, “Jarrurat thi, bahut. Agar humko samaj mein rehna hai toh samaj ki kuch niyamo ka palan karna padta hai, yeh mai apni galtiyo se seekhi. Ya toh ap island par raho, ya toh ap jaise marji raho. Yaha pe kya hai na jo mai sochti hoon waisa baki log nahi sochte na. Mai kahi jati hoon toh mujhe ajeeb se drishti se dekha jata hai. Toh mai comfortable feel nahi karti. Shaadi karlo sab theek ho jata hai. It’s very sad thing but it’s true.”Neena further stated that while she believes marriage is important, it does not mean one should marry just anyone. However, she admitted that staying single as a woman can be extremely difficult in society.
