Napoleon CLARIFIES on MISSING Bharathiraja’s funeral

Napoleon CLARIFIES on MISSING Bharathiraja's funeral, pens heartfelt note: 'My life in cinema began with him'

Bharathiraja’s passing has broken many hearts in the Tamil movie industry. Among them is actor Napoleon, whom Bharathiraja launched into cinema. Deeply saddened by the news, Napoleon posted an emotional video message remembering the filmmaker’s impact on his life. He described Bharathiraja not only as a director but also as a mentor who played a major role in shaping his career and giving him an identity in the film industry.

Shock and disbelief mark Napoleon’s reaction to the news

Napoleon expressed his sorrow in a video uploaded on a social networking site, mentioning that he found it hard to believe at first when he learned of Bharathiraja’s demise because the director had been quite ill for some time, and he often called the director’s family members to inquire about the veteran filmmaker’s health. At first, Napoleon thought it was just another rumor spreading around because there had been rumors regarding Bharathiraja’s death just a month ago, but this time it turned out to be true.

Unable to attend the funeral, Napoleon expresses his regret

Currently living in the United States, Napoleon said he was unable to travel to India despite making efforts to do so. This has added to his sorrow, as he could not be present for the final rites of the man he considered his guru. “If I had the opportunity, I would have been among the first to stand by Bharathiraja during his last journey,” he said. The actor said it was painful to stay thousands of miles away at such an emotional moment, especially given the close bond he shared with the filmmaker for decades.

A lasting legacy and an unforgettable bond

Remembering their long association, Napoleon said Bharathiraja remained an important part of his life even outside cinema. Whether through showing him movies or keeping up their friendly ties over the years, the director was never out of touch with him. The actor recalled speaking to Bharathiraja just a few months ago and had hoped to meet him in person soon. Sadly, that opportunity never came. Paying his final respects from afar, Napoleon said Bharathiraja’s contribution to Tamil cinema can never be replaced and that the lessons, encouragement, and memories he gave to countless artists will continue to live on forever.
