Like multiple stars Telugu star Naga Chaitanya has approached the Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights against deepfakes, AI-generated content, and unauthorized merchandise. On Friday, his team told the court that many websites and social media pages were using his image in wrong and harmful ways.

Complaint about AI videos

As per an ANI report, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar appeared for Naga Chaitanya in court. He said many AI-generated videos and deepfake clips were showing the actor in objectionable situations. He also told the court that some videos falsely linked the actor with his former wife and spread claims that he cheated on her and ruined her career.“This is trolling, this is not fair criticism,” Gaggar told the court directly. The actor also claimed that several pornographic websites used his name in domain names, tags and search results. According to the case, this created a false connection between the actor and obscene content online.Justice Jyoti Singh heard the matter and also looked into the actor’s request for a dynamic injunction. The actor said new fake and harmful content keeps appearing online every day, and strong protection is needed to stop future misuse quickly.

Actor’s team says reputation is being harmed

The actor’s team also claimed that his public image and commercial value were being damaged because of fake videos, voice-cloned clips and manipulated content shared online for views and money. The case also mentioned that several legal notices were already sent to platforms and intermediaries. However, the actor said many of them either did not respond properly or removed only some of the content.

YouTube responds in court

During the hearing, the court said public figures may face more public attention, but there should still be limits. “You are in public life, you are certainly more vulnerable than the rest of the people, but it has its limitations,” the court observed. Lawyers appearing for YouTube informed the court that some AI-generated videos mentioned by the actor had already been removed. At the same time, they said a few links were related to news reports, where different legal standards may apply. After hearing all sides, the Delhi High Court issued summons in the case and indicated that it would pass an interim order to protect the actor’s personality rights while the matter continues in court. The next hearing is scheduled for September 30.Disclaimer: This report is a journalistic account of a recent court development.
