Mel Brooks celebrated a centennial birthday on June 28, 2026, and his secret lies in making people smile. The legendary veteran, renowned for his roles in ‘Blazing Saddles,’ ‘Young Frankenstein,’ ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights,’ and more, has received applause from fans for his daring humour and varied accolades over the years. His long-lived legacy is a testament to achieving new heights despite the challenges.

Mel Brooks: A celebration of life

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Melvin James Brooks served as a combat engineer in the US Army during World War II. One of four sons of European immigrants, he grew up in the house as a sickly child. During his youth, the star of ‘The Producers’ dreamed of playing drums, but World War II interrupted his plans, according to The Guardian. After returning home, Brooks took steps to actively participate in the entertainment business by drumming at resorts for audiences. Filling in for a once-sick comedian, he took the stage and discovered the joy of gaining laughter. The evening led to his recruitment as a writer on ‘Your Show of Shows.’ During his seven-decade career span, the 100-year-old has received various awards, including the Academy, Tonys, Emmys, and Grammys. While his age might have turned to triple digits, his passion for work continues. His famed show, ‘Spaceballs,’ will have a reboot series on Amazon, scheduled for a 2027 release, and he will reprise his role of Yogurt. Moreover, Mel Brooks will voice a significant character in an upcoming animated film, ‘The Land of Sometimes.’

When Mel Brooks shared his life secret

“I think laughing keeps you healthy and happy,” he shared the secret of his longevity during an interview with People, before adding, “Making comedy is a great job. It keeps you sane and happy. It gives you a reason to be alive.”Earlier this year, Mel Brooks announced the donation of his thousands of documents and photographs to the National Comedy Centre in Jamestown, New York. “I’ve always been proud to say that I make people laugh for a living,” Brooks said in a statement, per The Independent, and continued, “So, knowing that my work will have a home at comedy’s national archive and continue making people laugh leaves me with a deep sense of pride.”

About Mel Brooks’ personal life

Mel Brooks tied the knot with Florence Baum, but they divorced in 1962 after having three children. He later married the Oscar-winning actress Anne Bancroft in 1964 and had a child. They stayed together until she passed away due to cancer at 73 in 2005. Go to Source
