Meet Dharmendra’s daughter-in-law Deepti Bhatnagar

Meet Dharmendra's daughter-in-law Deepti Bhatnagar: Trained by Shah Rukh Khan for ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, bought house from Madhuri Dixit, now a travel vlogger

Bollywood legend Dharmendra is one of the most loved actors, and the Deol family has given the cinema many talented stars across generations. From Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol to Esha Deol and Abhay Deol, the family has created its own legacy in films. Yet, one lesser-known member, Dharmendra’s daughter-in-law Deepti Bhatnagar, charted a very different path.Though she briefly ventured into acting in the 1990s, she soon stepped away from the silver screen and found her true calling exploring the world as a travel vlogger.

Meet Deepti Bhatnagar

Deepti is married to Randeep Arya, the son of Dharmendra’s cousin Veerendra, who was a popular actor in Punjabi films of the 1980s.Deepti Bhatnagar was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. She moved to Mumbai and started a handicraft business before being offered modelling work. She later won a beauty pageant at just 18. Within a month, she had Rs 1 lakh in her bank account, and within a year, she bought a home in Mumbai.“When I came first to Mumbai at the age of 22, I opened my first bank account with State Bank of India, Juhu, and vowed that by the end of the month, I’d have a lakh in my account. Modelling was easy money, so I succeeded,” Deepti told Hindustan Times in 2022.“When I came to Mumbai, I wanted to buy my dream house in 11 months. And, I did! In Juhu, and that too, from Madhuri Dixit,” she added.

She acted in films across multiple languages

Deepti made her acting debut in Sanjay Gupta’s 1995 action film ‘Ram Shashtra’ with Jackie Shroff, Manisha Koirala, and Aditya Pancholi. She then appeared in Telugu film ‘Pelli Sandadi’ (1996) and Tamil film ‘Dharma Chakkaram’ (1997).She also made her Hollywood debut as the lead in Fred Olen Ray’s 1997 spy thriller ‘Inferno’, which was R Madhavan’s first film. Later, she acted in several Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films, including Indra Kumar’s 1999 romantic drama ‘Mann’ with Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala. In 1998, Deepti played the lead role of a cop in the TV show ‘Yeh Hai Raaz’.

Deepti Bhatnagar trained under Shah Rukh Khan for role

Despite her early success, Deepti admitted she was always hesitant. In the early 1990s, after a popular ad with Shah Rukh Khan, he trained her for the role of Anna in Kundan Shah’s 1994 romantic drama ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’. But she “ran away from the screen test.” The role eventually went to Suchitra Krishnamoorthy. She also revealed that after doing a commercial with Sunny Deol, she was asked to meet Dharmendra but “was too scared” to do that. “Who knew I would end up getting married into that family,” she said.

She married Randeep Arya and started family

Deepti married Randeep Arya, “Randeep and I did a commercial, in which he played my husband. We got engaged the same year. Then, I moved in with him. After eight years, I asked him, ‘Shaadi karoge ab?’ (Will you marry me now?).” The couple have two sons, Shubh, 18, and Shiv, 12. Deepti is also an aunt to TV actor Arjun Bijlani, who is married to her niece Neha Swami.

She discovered her passion for travel globally

Deepti shifted her focus from films to travel. “I’ve travelled the world with my family and gave birth to both my children while hosting ‘Musaafir Hoon Yaaron’. Both my sons travelled with me and exploring the world with them is my biggest blessing,” she had told Travel + Leisure India.

She produced popular travel shows on television

In 2001, Deepti started her own TV production company with her husband. She produced popular travel shows including ‘Yatra’ and ‘Musaafir Hoon Yaaron’, in which she travelled to 90 countries. “My shows ‘Yatra’ and ‘Musaafir Hoon Yaaron’ have taught me humility, how to connect with people, and to appreciate the world’s beauty. Whether I was acting or now creating travel content, the essence of what I do has always been about sharing meaningful stories. Over the years, my journey has evolved, but my passion for exploring and showcasing the world remains constant,” she said.

Deepti now creates content for travel enthusiasts

Today, Deepti is a YouTuber and content creator, and has 190K subscribers. “Maybe if I had made acting in movies my goal, then I would have done more films. But, I feel I’ve done really well for myself,” she said. Go to Source
