In a recent social media post, Matt Brown’s brother, Bear Brown, revealed that his brother, who had been estranged from the family for a long time, has passed away. In the video, Bear appeared to be in tears as he confirmed that there was a high chance his older brother and ‘Alaskan Bush People’ co-star had passed away.He started the video by saying, “I wanted to start out by saying that I can’t confirm that it’s a hundred percent true right now, but it is what I’m hearing.” He further added, “I’m being told that late last night that Matt took his own life. … Witnesses say that he was seen in a river, at a river, or close to a river, and that he took his own life, and that they saw him floating down the river.”He revealed that the news was based on witnesses and that the authorities had been searching the area for Brown. He further shared that his brother had been suffering from alcohol and substance abuse for quite some time, and had been estranged from the family for a long time as well.

In the video, he also recalled the last time that he ran into his brother at the grocery store. He remembered the instance and said, “Before I left for Florida, I actually ran into him in Walmart, and we talked for a few minutes, and that was the last time I saw him, you know?, and he called me after that, and he said that he had fallen off the wagon, and I was like, ‘Well, get back on it, man. You know, everybody falls off. Just get back on it. Go to rehab if you’ve got to. You’ve got this. You’ve fought it a lot before and all.’ And that was the last call I had with him, and that was a little bit ago.”He concluded the video by asking for privacy and respect in the meantime and stated he just wished to keep everyone updated about what was happening. In a follow-up post, he called out some of the malicious comments being said about his family members and further cited that the body is ‘99%’ his brother, Matt.
Search called off until further notice for the missing man believed to be Matt Brown
In another social media post made on May 30 by the Office of the Okanogan County Sheriff, search efforts were carried out in the area. The statement added that “Deputies and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife agent[s] used boats, personal watercraft, sonar and divers to search an expanding area near the last location the male was seen. A canine from Spokane, trained in detection of human remains, was deployed and implements were used to drag the river bottom.
