Mastiii 4 beats Masti and Great Grand Masti to become 2nd biggest opener

Vivek Oberoi, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani’s ‘Mastiii 4’ opens as second-highest opening of the franchise

The Masti franchise returns with Mastiii 4, starring Oberoi, Deshmukh, and Shivdasani, raking in Rs 2.75 crore on its opening day. This marks the second-highest Day 1 collection for the series, surpassing Masti and Great Grand Masti. The adult-comedy sequel, a nostalgia-driven entertainer, shows strong franchise recall despite a moderate buzz.

Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani are back after almost a decade as Amar, Prem and Meet with the 4th edition of their adult-comedy sequel Mastiii 4 . The film opened to a decent Rs 2.75 crore collection on its first day, marking a solid start for the fourth instalment of the popular Masti franchise. Released amid moderate buzz and positioned as a nostalgia-driven entertainer, the film’s Day 1 performance reflects both franchise recall value .The Masti franchise has historically delivered mixed openings, with numbers heavily dependent on the tone, marketing scale and pre-release momentum. When placed alongside the earlier films, Mastiii 4’s opening day figures rank it as the second-highest Day 1 grosser of the series. Here’s how the franchise compares on opening day:Masti (2004): Rs 1.8 croreGrand Masti (2013): Rs 12.50 croreGreat Grand Masti (2016): Rs 2.65 croreMastiii 4 (2025): Rs 2.75 croreTo give a context, Masti when released in 2004 had set the base for adult comedies in Bollywood, with the second installment the film pushed the envelope and it went on to become the first A rated film to cross Rs 100 crore. With Great Grand Masti, its wings were clipped even before its release as the film was leaked online leading to major losses to everyone involved. For now Mastiii 4 has comfortably surpassed the openings of both Masti and Great Grand Masti. Notably, it edges past Great Grand Masti by Rs 10 lakh, a margin small in absolute terms but symbolically important, given that the franchise had struggled to regain momentum after the underperformance of the third film. The film clashes with Farhan Akhtar’s 120 Bahadur and it was able to earn Rs 2.35 crore from its day 1 collection. The film is based on the 1962 Indi-Sino battle which was fought in Rezang La where 120 Indian soldiers took on 3000 Chinese soldiers.
