To celebrate Marilyn Monroe and what would have been her 100th birthday, the Greater Palm Springs Pride organized a gathering of Marilyn Monroe look-alikes in downtown Palm Springs over the weekend. The event was a huge success, with many people showing up to support the move, dressed head to toe like one of Monroe’s most iconic looks. Not only that, but the gathering even broke a Guinness World Record!

Videos and photos from the event went viral as many people gathered at Palm Springs, donning a wig of Monroe’s iconic blonde hair and the flared white dress.The New York Post reported that originally, they had been planning for around 500 people to show up to the event. They aimed to break the world record for the largest number of Monroe impersonators, but the number far exceeded expectations. The last record was set in 2020, when 254 gathered in Brighton, Australia.Around 1,037 people gathered in the area, volunteering to dress up as the actress and contribute to the world record. Participants at the event paid a USD 75 registration fee, which included a white dress, the iconic platinum-blond wig, a pair of cat-eye sunglasses, and a martini glass to properly impersonate the actress.
How was this made possible
The event’s organizer, Ron deHarte, explained how they planned on tracking everyone. He stated to The Hollywood Times, “When folks arrive, they’ll scan a QR code that confirms they’re physically here. That’s part of how we’re using technology to document participation and verify attendance.”
