Mammootty fans have more than one reason to head to theatres this August. While Dulquer Salmaan’s production ‘Lokah Chapter: 1 Chandra’ is set to release on August 28, 2025, the highly awaited teaser of Mammootty’s upcoming film ‘Kalamkaval’ will also be unveiled alongside the superhero spectacle.Taking to X, Mammootty confirmed the news, sparking celebrations across social media. The film marks Mammootty’s collaboration with debutant director Jithin K. Jose. Though much of the plot is under wraps, the star is expected to headline a gritty, character-driven narrative, blending action with psychological drama. The movie will have Vinayakan in a pivotal role.

‘Kalamkaval’ poster unveiled

Adding to the buzz, the makers dropped a fresh poster recently, and it immediately sent fans into a frenzy. With the tagline “The Venom Beneath,” the poster features Mammootty seated at the centre of a blood-red spider web, cigarette in hand, his sly smile radiating menace. The teaser announcement and poster together suggest that ‘Kalamkaval’ will be one of the actor’s darkest outings in recent years.

Mammootty’s grey role raises expectations

The superstar has a knack to portray villain roles and the most recent one being his Chathan character in Rahul Sadasivan’s horror film ‘Bramayugam’ which received much love from the audiences. The movie had Siddharth Bharathan and Arjun Ashokan also in pivotal roles.Coming to ‘Kalamkaval, the production was wrapped in November 2024, and with the teaser now set to drop, a release update seems closer than ever.On the other hand, the year 2025 has not been a golden one for the superstar. Several of his recent outings such as ‘Bazooka’, ‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse’ failed to make a mark at the box office. Both the films have not yet done an OTT deal yet. Mammootty will be seen next in Mahesh Narayanan’s multi starrer project ‘Patriot’.
