The film industry mourns the loss of Malaysia Bhaskar, a legendary stunt director who departed this world after suffering a heart attack in Malaysia. Known for his breathtaking fight choreography that effortlessly blended realism and style, Bhaskar’s influence resonated deeply within Indian cinema, particularly in the vibrant realm of Malayalam films.

TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains mention of death.Veteran stunt director Malaysia Bhaskar passed away following a heart attack in Malaysia.Known for his mastery in choreographing realistic and stylish fight sequences, Bhaskar’s contributions spanned across Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada industries. In Malayalam cinema, his collaborations were with top filmmakers such as Joshiy, I. V. Sasi, Bharathan, Fazil, Siddique and Sibi Malayil.Bhaskar’s name carried such weight that when the title card “Fight – Malaysia Bhaskar” appeared on screen, it would elicit thunderous applause in theatres across Kerala. His most noted works are in films ‘Thazhvaram’, ‘Mrigaya’, ‘Ramji Rao Speaking’, ‘Kalikkalam’, ‘Sooryamanasam’, ‘Samrajyam’, ‘Boxer’, ‘Kuttapathram’, ‘Randam Bhavam’ and ‘Bodyguard’ and the fights in these films remains etched in Malayalam film history.

From raw realism to stylish action

The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) directors’ union expressed its condolences, praising Bhaskar’s versatility and enduring influence. FEFKA’s Facebook note read:“Malaysia: Veteran film fight master and producer Malaysia Bhaskar passed away due to a heart attack in Malaysia. He was skilled at choreographing realistic fight sequences for director Bharathan’s films like Thazhvaram, technically sophisticated action scenes in Joshiy’s films, and stylish, mass-appeal fights in Babu Antony’s movies. There was a time when the name ‘Fight – Malaysia Bhaskar’ appearing on screen would bring thunderous applause in theatres.”A legacy that lives onAs mentioned in the note, according to editor P. C. Mohanan, Bhaskar was in Malaysia for a shoot schedule of a new Tamil film directed by Balaji at the time of his passing. The funeral will take place in Malaysia on Saturday. Having choreographed fights for more than 250 Malayalam films, Malaysia Bhaskar’s creative energy and commitment to cinematic excellence left a lasting mark on Indian cinema. FEFKA Directors’ Union concluded its note by extending its heartfelt condolences for the veteran stunt master.
