Madhavan on white women’s perception of Indian men

R Madhavan claims white women’s perception of Indian men has completely changed now: ‘They walk towards us thinking we are some entrepreneurs

R Madhavan recently shared his observation about how the world sees Indian men today. He recalled that a few years ago, when Indian men travelled abroad, white women often looked at them cautiously, assuming they were trying to flirt. But the ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ actor feels that the times have changed now.

Madhavan shares his thoughts on white women’s perception of Indian men

In a recent chat with his ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ co-stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Meezan Jafri on BookMyShow’s Unscripted YouTube show, Madhavan revealed that today, women are more likely to approach Indian men, thinking they are entrepreneurs rather than just flirtatious strangers.

R Madhavan recalls how Indian men were once seen differently

The ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ actor said, “Sari gori ladkiyan aise dekhti thi jaise unko line marne aaye hain (When we used to go abroad and go to a bar, all the white women would look at us like we were there to hit on them). Now, it is such that when an Indian enters a space, four white women walk towards us thinking we are some entrepreneurs and they want to say hello. I have not seen that Indian in the movies yet.”

Madhavan wants to work with fresh directors

The ‘3 Idiots’ actor also spoke about his wish to collaborate with fresh directors. “The thing that is getting in my way right now is the filmyness of the industry in terms of the way they think. They all are making stories to please their mentors,” he said. With years of experience behind him, Madhavan wants to mix his learnings with a director’s fresh storytelling approach. This, he believes, could bring a modern perspective to Indian cinema.

R Madhavan’s upcoming film

Madhavan will appear in ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, directed by Anshul Sharma. It is the sequel to the 2019 film ‘De De Pyaar De’. The movie also stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezaan Jafri. The sequel continues the story from the first film and is set to release in theatres tomorrow, November 14.
