Maanvi Gagroo recalls receiving ‘Rs 1L plus compromise’ texts

Maanvi Gagroo recalls receiving ‘Rs 1 lakh plus compromise’ texts: ‘This is what happens to non-nepo kids'

Maanvi Gagroo has opened up about some of the bizarre and uncomfortable experiences she faced as a newcomer in the entertainment industry. Recalling encounters that ranged from cryptic propositions to confusing casting terminology, the actress said navigating the industry as a non-industry outsider often came with a steep learning curve.During her appearance on Two Girls & Two Cups, Maanvi revealed that one of the strangest incidents occurred early in her career when she received a text offering her “Rs 1 lakh plus compromise” for a project.“And this was in the beginning of my career, so I was like… I replied saying ‘compromise?’ because I did not know,” she said. The actress admitted that she initially failed to understand the implication behind the word and even showed the message to a casting director she trusted.“I showed it to a casting director who was like a mentor sort of a thing. He was like, ‘Just delete, block, delete him,’” she recalled. What surprised her most was the sender’s confidence in putting such a proposition in writing.“I was impressed, yaar. People usually think there should be no proof. They’ll say things on the phone so nobody can report them. But this was ‘Rs 1 lakh plus compromise’ in a text,” she said.

‘I thought maybe it meant GST’

Looking back, Maanvi laughed at how innocently she interpreted the message. “Mujhe pehle laga compromise matlab budget mein compromise karoge ki nahi. I thought maybe it’s a financial thing. Like GST, you know? Rs 1 lakh plus GST, complimentary something maybe. Plus compromise. I didn’t know,” she said. The actress added that such misunderstandings are common for newcomers trying to decode industry jargon.“This is what happens to non-nepo kids. Navigating all of this is not easy,” she remarked.

The Debonair magazine confusion

Maanvi also recounted another incident involving a magazine photoshoot that left her embarrassed after she realised what she had agreed to.She said she received a call for a cover shoot for Debonair magazine and was initially thrilled.“They said cover shoot and I was like, ‘I’m going to be on the cover of Debonair?’ I didn’t know the magazine. I was so excited,” she said. However, after sharing the news with the man she was dating at the time, she was urged to do some research.“He was like, ‘Please Google it first. Why are you so excited? Have you done any research?’”Maanvi said she quickly backed out after learning more about the publication.“I looked it up and I was like, ‘Oh.’ Then I immediately texted saying, ‘No, sorry, sorry, this isn’t something I want to do,’” she recalled.
