Lokah beats Gangubai Kathiwadi as 3rd highest female led film

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra’ beats Alia Bhatt’s 'Gangubai Kathiwadi' to become the 3rd highest grossing female led film of Indian Cinema

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra,’ backed by Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Domini Arun, continues its box office domination. Surpassing Rs 137.75 crore in 25 days, it’s now the third highest-grossing female-led Indian film, surpassing Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi.’ The Malayalam film is part of a five-part series and has become the highest grossing Malayalam film across the globe.

Kalyani Priyadarshan headlined, Dulquer Salmaan backed and Domini Arun directed Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra continues its record breaking spree at the box office. The film in its 24 day run at the box office has already become the highest grossing malayalam film across the globe, it also became only the 3rd film to cross Rs 100 crore collection just from Kerala and it is also the highest grossing female led film from South of India beating Keerthy Suresh’s Mahanati.And now the film has put another feature in its cap as it take the 3rd spot in the Top 5 women led films of all time in Indian Cinema.In 25 days that the film has been running at the box office the film has collected Rs 137.75 crore as per Sacnilk, thereby occupying the 3rd spot in the list of highest grossing female led films of Indian Cinema. The spot was earlier held by Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiwadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. THe film was a biographical crime drama based in the book Mafia Queens by S Hussain Zaidi. THe film told the story of a simple girl from Kathiwad in Gujrat who is forced into prostitution and later rises to become a madam.The film had gone on to mint Rs 132.01 crore at the box office in its lifetime run. It was also the film which cemented Alia’s position in the Hindi film industry as a force to reckon with.

Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra has been performing steadily at the box office, where in first week it collected Rs 54.7 crore, in second week it collected Rs 47 crore, in this week the collection hit Rs 27.1 crore and in the fourth weekend the film added Rs 8.75 crore with a Sunday collection of Rs 4 crore. Lokah is the part of the 5 part series actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan has put together to form the first ‘Universe’ of Malayalam Cinema. With the way trends are showing for the film, it would be crossing the Rs 140 crore mark by the end of 4th week and fly the flag of Malayalam cinema high as one of the most exciting cinema industries in the country.The second installment of the film would be featuring Tovino Thomas- he played a cameo role in the first part. The third part would be headlined by Dulquer Salmaan and fourth would have Mammootty playing the lead.Alia would be next seen in Aditya Chopra’s Alpha with Bobby Deol and Sharvai, post which she has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
