A rural action drama inspired by the Mahabharata

Set in the fictional village of Bharatham Mitta in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, ‘Lenin’ follows the journey of an orphan who is raised by village head Jayyamma. As he grows older he falls in love with Bharathi, but his life soon takes an unexpected turn. The story begins as a village-based drama before gradually transforming into a tale of betrayal, revenge and hidden motives. The narrative is inspired by the Mahabharata, while the annual Draupadi festival forms an important backdrop to the events in the film. The film has received appreciation for Akhil Akkineni’s performance. ETimes review reads, “Returning after a three-year gap, Akhil Akkineni settles comfortably into his first full-fledged rural role. He underplays the character for much of the film before delivering his strongest performance in the emotionally charged climax. Bhagyashri Borse is convincing as free-spirited Bharathi, while the supporting cast lends credibility to the story. Sivaji, despite an effective screen presence, feels somewhat underused.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and the data in this article are compiled from public and industry sources.
