After months of speculation, the casting mystery surrounding ‘Kamal Aur Meena’ has finally been resolved. Kiara Advani has officially signed on to portray the legendary Meena Kumari in Siddharth P. Malhotra’s upcoming directorial project, according to reports.

The story behind ‘Kamal Aur Meena’

According to Mid day, the film, produced by Bilal Amrohi, will explore the turbulent relationship between Meena Kumari and her husband, filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, best known for the classic ‘Pakeezah’ (1972). Rumours had been circulating for a while, with names like Kriti Sanon also being considered, but sources confirm that Advani has secured the coveted role.

A new chapter for the actress

An insider shared that the decision came after months of negotiations. “The talks took time, but Siddharth believed Kiara had that vintage charm and emotional depth needed to portray Meena Kumari authentically,” the source said. “She brings a timeless grace that suits the film’s period setting.”’Kamal Aur Meena’ will mark several milestones for Advani. It will be her first biographical role and her first project since becoming a mother in July. The film is expected to begin production in the first half of 2026, giving her ample time to prepare. The actress will reportedly undergo Urdu training to embody the celebrated star with accuracy and sensitivity.The search is still on for the actor who will play Kamal Amrohi.
