‘Kartavya’ actor Saif says fatherhood changed him

'Kartavya' actor Saif Ali Khan says fatherhood changed him; 'I reach home by 11 PM, made sacrifices’

Saif Ali Khan is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Kartavya’ and has shared candid thoughts about balancing professional commitments with family life. The actor has largely limited himself to one project a year since 2022. He says that this approach has helped him focus more on his personal life.Saif explained in a recent interview that becoming a father to Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan changed the way he views time and priorities.

Saif Ali Khan’s sacrifices

In an interview with India Today, Saif spoke about the personal costs that often come with a career in films. “I’m sure there have been sacrifices professionally that have cost me personally. We’ve also been lucky, because as actors you can’t take support for granted in this profession.” He used a mountain-climbing analogy to describe home as a “base camp” where one returns to recover and regain strength. According to Saif, spending too much time away can weaken that foundation and create distance from the people who matter most. Saif acknowledged that actors often miss important family milestones and private moments. “You miss out on important personal moments too,” he said.He added that fatherhood later in life made him far more conscious about returning home on time. “At this age, I’ve become more conscious about giving time to family. Especially after having children a little later in life, I started feeling that I must be home at a certain time in the evening. That nine-to-nine shift really bothers me because you don’t start at nine and you don’t finish at nine. The last shot goes up at 9:30, you’re home by 11, and I don’t think that’s a life. But yes, I have made lots of sacrifices, which was crazy,” he added.

Saif Ali Khan’s family journey

Saif was previously married to Amrita Singh, and they have two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. After their separation in 2004, he married Kareena Kapoor Khan in 2012.The couple later welcomed Taimur and Jehangir, who have become a central part of Saif’s daily life and priorities.Directed by Pulkit, known for Bhakshak, Kartavya follows a police officer named Pawan as he faces rising threats while trying to protect his family.Speaking to PTI, Saif said, “I dove into ‘Kartavya’ because I love the script. I think it is a great drama and a really interesting, almost international kind of piecing together of things. I had not read a script like this, and people who read it and discussed it at the time said that this is one of the best roles that have come my way.”
