‘Kareena Shahid broke up, so wrote THIS song,’ reveals lyricist Sameer

'Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor broke up during Milenge Milenge, refused to shoot,' says Sameer Anjaan; made THIS song as an ode to their real love story

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor’s break up came as a huge shock to their fans who still continue to enjoy their on-screen chemistry in movies like ‘Fida’ and ‘Jab We Met’. Infact, recently, when Kareena and Shahid met at an event, a video of them talking went viral and fans were teary eyed to see this ‘Geet, Aditya’ reunion. The couple broke up but that time they were shooting for ‘Milenge Milenge’. In a recent interview, lyricist Sameer Anjaan has revealed that he wrote the song ‘Kuch Toh Baaki Hai’ composed by Himesh Reshammiya as an ode to their real life love story. In a recent interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Sameer revealed how most of his lyrics have come straight from the soul and hence have been soul-stirring. “Jo kaam Jahan se kiya jaata hai wahin assar karta hai. Agar rooh se kiya hai toh rooh pe asar karega. Agar dimaag se kiya hai toh wahin tak aake reh jayega,” he said. The veteran lyricist, also reveals how sometimes, songs are made from real life situations and hence they are so impactful. “Jaise jab Rishta toota tha, Kareena aur Shahid ka. woh picture hum likh rahe the, ‘Milenge Milenge’. Ek gaana reh gaya hai. Ab yeh dono alag ho gaye, toh Boney Kapoor pareshaan ke karne ko taiyaar nahi. Toh mujhe Boney Kapoor ne kahaa, kuch aisa likh dena ke unko lage unki love story likh di hai aur shayad karne ko taiyyar ho jaaye. Toh tab Himesh Reshammiya aur maine yeh gaana banaaya, ‘Kuch toh baaki hai, tere mere darmiyan, sab khatm hoke bhi…’ Agar kisi se pyaar kiya ho, toh kuch toh rahega (When Kareena and Shahid broke up, we were doing Milenge Milenge. One song was left and they were separated to didn’t want to shoot together. Now producer Boney Kapoor was tensed and asked me to write a song which they feel sums up their love story and may be on hearing it, they may be ready to shoot. So we made the song ‘Kuch toh baaki hai’).” In the same interview, he also revealed that Salman Khan would cry before the shot every day while shooting for ‘Tere Naam’ and the song, ‘Kyun Kisi Ko Wafaa Ke Badle’ was specially made as Salman wanted it to be based on his real life feelings after break up with Aishwarya Rai. “Title track unko dhyaan mein rakhke nahi likhwaya. Unko joh likhwaya gaya tha, woh joh asli unki kahaani tooti thi Aishwarya se. Woh gaana Himesh ko bulaake woh suna ke rote the. Kyun kisi ko Wafaa ke badle, Wafaa nai milti. Unko lagaa, yeh mera dard hai wahan tak pahunchna chahiye.” He also gave a message for a younger generation that being a lyricist is not about just words, it’s about emotions. “Yeh sab bohot badi seekh hai aane wali peedhi ke liye. Baat lafzon ki nahi hoti, baat jazbon ki hoti hai.”
