Karan Johar wants his kids to become makeup and hair artists

Karan Johar wants his kids Roohi and Yash to become makeup and hair artists because 'they are earning more money'

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is known for launching several newcomers including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, has always been candid about his life and choices. In a recent interview, Karan revealed he does not want his children, Roohi and Yash, to step into Bollywood as actors. Instead, he hopes they carve out careers as makeup and hair artists.“Don’t even get me started on the charges the makeup and hair artists take today. In fact, I would want Roohi and Yash to become makeup and hair artists because they are earning more money than other people. Ek hair kare aur dusra make up—it will be very beneficial for both of them,” he said on Game Changers podcast.

On star entourages and budgets

Karan also addressed the expensive entourages actors often travel with, stressing ethical concerns rather than financial ones.“I am like humara budget yeh hai because we are business people. If you want more people, you give them then. But if you are a regular hero, your job is to look good. Some actors we are giving budgets that this is the budget. If you want to go beyond, do it on your own. 6-8 log kyun karte hain travel aapke saath (why do you need 6-8 people to travel with you).”

Karan Johar Admits His Twins Are ‘More Entitled and Privileged’ Than Him

He added that for sports biopics or dramas where actors’ bodies are constantly on screen, producers can cover special arrangements. But for regular films, actors should manage extras themselves if they are already earning hefty fees. Karan became a single parent in 2017 after welcoming twins Roohi and Yash via surrogacy. Since then, he has shared glimpses of his parenting journey on social media, often showing the playful banter between him and his kids.
