After Om Puri passed away, his first wife Seema Kapoor opened up about their marriage and painful separation in an interview. Looking back at her relationship with the late actor, she recalled how he confessed to an affair with his house help just a day before their wedding. Seema also alleged that Om Puri later cheated on her with his second wife, Nandita, and revealed that they divorced while she was pregnant. She said she eventually lost their baby after moving out of his house during the early months of her pregnancy.Recalling the events leading up to their wedding, Seema had said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, “We got engaged in 1989, and I don’t know why, but both families rushed us into getting married. Annu bhaiya (Annu Kapoor) was away shooting, and he was very upset that he got to know about his favourite sister’s engagement through another person. In those days, phones weren’t common. Just before the wedding, he told me about his relationship with the house help.”Despite the revelation, Seema said she went ahead with the marriage because she couldn’t bring herself to call it off at the last minute. “The invites had been sent out, we were going to have a reception as well. We were in a small town, Jhalawar, where my parents were highly respected individuals. He took me aside to the river and said that he needed to tell me something. I didn’t have the courage to cancel the wedding one day before it was supposed to happen. Women these days are far more courageous; some of them back out even during the rituals,” she said.Seema also looked back on the difficult period surrounding her divorce from Om Puri. She alleged that his relationship with Nandita left her deeply traumatised and that she lost her unborn child during that phase. According to Seema, Om Puri paid her an alimony of Rs 6 lakh during their divorce. However, after she lost the baby, she said he sent Rs 25,000 through his secretary instead of reaching out to her personally.”Forget consoling me. He sent Rs 25,000 via his secretary. I turned it down, and his secretary told me, ‘This ego is what is destroying you’. But what he thought was ego was just self-respect.”Om Puri and Seema Kapoor got married in 1990 before separating a few years later. The actor later married Nandita in 1993, though their marriage also ended in divorce in 2013. Om Puri passed away in January 2017 at the age of 66 after suffering a heart attack.
