'Homebound': Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor celebrate India’s official Oscar 2026 entry; call it 'pinch-me moment I’ll never forget’

Neeraj Ghaywan’s ‘Homebound’ was announced as India’s official entry for the 2026 Oscars. Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor celebrated the milestone on social media. The film, starring Ishaan Khatter, premiered at Cannes, won at Toronto, and follows two boys overcoming caste challenges. It releases on September 26.

‘Homebound’, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, stars Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa. It marks Ghaywan’s return to feature filmmaking after ten years. The film received a standing ovation at its premiere during the Cannes Film Festival in May. Furthermore, it was awarded third place in the People’s Choice category at the Toronto International Film Festival. The story, based on real events, follows two boys from rural India who face caste and community challenges while trying to secure government jobs to gain respect. The trailer was warmly received, and the film is set to release in India on September 26.
