Kantara: Chapter 1 earns just USD 190,000 in pre-sales

Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 continues its slow growth in USA with just USD 190,000 pre-sales

Kantara Chapter 1, a prequel to the 2022 film, prepares for its October 2 release. Rishabh Shetty directs this film. US advance bookings began on September 18. The film collected USD 51,685 on the first day. Total collections reached USD 190,000 by Saturday morning. The film needs a push for box office collection.

In 2022 Rishabh Shetty put the Kannada industry into the heart of Indian Cinema with Kantara. The film proved that Yash and Prashanth Neel’s KGF, was not a flash in the pan for Kannada industry. Kantara went on to make about Rs 310 crore in India. With the success of the first part, the demand for more of the same began and actor-director Rishabh Shetty took on the challenge and geared up to make the second part. But this time he took the story behind, for the second part- he is making a prequel to the 2022 film’s success, he plays a fierce naga sadhu in the film. The film has been titled as Kantara-Chapter 1. The film is slated to release on 2nd October. While the advance booking for the film is yet to open in India, the tickets went on sale on 18th September in the United States of America. And booking took a solid start as in just one day the film had done an advance booking of USD 51,685 from over 1700 locations. But till Saturday morning( 8th day to booking being opened) the film has minted just a little over USD 190,000 , showcasing a jump of just USD 140,000 in 7 days. The film is slated for release in the next 5 days and it needs a dramatic push to have a respectable collection at the box office. Kantara was the first Kannada film to cross USD 1 million mark in North America. Kantara: Chapter 1 would be released in Kannada, Telugu and Hindi versions and is clashing with Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sankari ki Tulsi Kumari on the same day. Both the films are involved in a tussle over who gets the maximum screens in India with both demanding most shows for themselves.
