Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has achieved a remarkable box office success, crossing Rs 255.75 crore in India within five days. The film has shattered records, becoming the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year. This prequel, set a millennium before the original, depicts a conflict between a jungle village and a neighboring kingdom.

First Monday numbers out

According to the latest update from Sacnilk, Rishab Shetty’s film earned Rs 30.50 crore on its first Monday. With this, its total collection in India has reached Rs 255.75 crore in just five days.The film had an overall 72.70 percent Kannada Occupancy, 36.52 percent Telugu Occupancy, 17.67 percent Hindi Occupancy, 43.13 percent Tamil Occupancy and 40.01 percent Malayalam Occupancy on Monday, October 06, 2025.

Breaking Kannada box office records

Kantara Chapter 1 set the cash registers ringing at the box office on day 1 with a massive Rs 61.85 crore. It maintained strong momentum throughout its first weekend. Over the past few days, it has shattered box office records, becoming the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year. The film has surpassed Su From So (Rs 92 crore net in India last month) as well as big releases like Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs 167 crore), Lokah Chapter 1 (Rs 153 crore), and even the domestic collection of KGF Chapter 1 (Rs 185 crore).

A prequel to the original Kantara

Kantara Chapter 1 is set a thousand years before the events of the first film. It is the story of a clash between the jungle village of Kantara and the neighbouring kingdom of Kadamba. Berme (Rishab Shetty), a brave warrior from Kantara, stands up against Kulasekhara (Gulshan Devaiah), who seeks to exploit and dominate their land. The film ends with a hint of Kantara Chapter 2.Along with Rishab Shetty in the lead, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah. The original Kantara was a surprise blockbuster, earning over Rs 400 crore worldwide on a modest Rs 15 crore budget.
