‘Kaantha’ box office collections day 8: Film mints Rs 1.06 crore

'Kaantha' box office collections day 8: Dulquer Salmaan's film sees dip; mints Rs 1.06 crore

Dulquer Salmaan’s latest historical thriller ‘Kaantha’ has seen a notable decline in box office earnings on its eighth day, pulling in around Rs 90 lakhs. After an energetic opening weekend, the film appears to be losing steam, with footfalls dropping in key urban centers. So far, it has accumulated a total of Rs 20.

‘Kaantha’, starring Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, shows a clear drop in its box office journey on day eight of its release. As reported by the Sacnilk website, after earning an estimated Rs 19.25 crore India net in its first six days, and around Rs 1.50 crore on day seven, early estimates now place day eight at about Rs 90 lakhs, though one update from Tenvow suggests Rs 1.06 crore.

Weekend momentum lost

The film opened strongly over its first weekend, but the momentum has failed to transition smoothly into the week. With occupancy in major cities like Chennai and Hyderabad reported around 13% during evening shows and global occupancy between 10-12%, the drop is evident. Afternoon sessions brought in roughly Rs 30 lakhs with 16% occupancy, while morning shows started at about Rs 20 lakhs with 11% occupancy. With eight days of release, it has reportedly reached Rs 20.95 crore India net, Rs 24.60 crore India gross, and Rs 6 crore overseas, totaling Rs 30.60 crore worldwide so far.

Period thriller with ambitious scope

Set in a historical backdrop, ‘Kaantha’ features Dulquer Salmaan alongside Rana Daggubati and Bhagyashri Borse in key roles. The movie explores mystery and drama against a period canvas. For ‘Kaantha’, the upcoming weekend will be critical in determining whether it can hold out or fade into the leaner second-week territory. Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan was last seen in the superhero film ‘Lokah’ where he played a cameo character named Odiyan. Dulquer will be next seen in ‘I’m Game’.
