Jisshu on why he plays husband to strong female roles: ‘PAISA’

Jisshu Sengupta shares why he keeps playing husband to strong female characters; actor jokes, 'PAISA, whatever I asked for…'

Jisshu Sengupta, who has worked in Bollywood films like ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’, ‘Shakuntala Devi’, ‘Antim: The Final Truth’, and more, recently opened up about playing husband to strong female characters in his projects. The actor interacted with the media at the launch of ‘Trial Season 2’. When Sengupta was asked why he picks such roles, the actor revealed the real reason.Here’s what he said.

According to Bollywood Bubble, during the event, when Jisshu Sengupta was questioned about how he felt portraying the husband of strong female characters, the actor said, “Brilliant, love it.”On the same, when asked to reveal the reason behind choosing such a role, the actor quickly answered, “Paisa” (jokingly). He further shared, “Money, it is… Whatever I am asked for, they have paid me, and I did it.” It seems the actor was in a fun mood and decided to bring out some laughter at the event.The actor then gave an honest answer to the question. He stated that he doesn’t think much about it. He expressed that when he likes his part in the project, he would do it.When questioned if he doesn’t feel such characters have become repetitive, the actor went on to say that if the audience doesn’t think that way, why would he? He concluded by saying that until the filmmakers keep casting him in such roles, he would do it.

Jisshu Sengupta’s Hindi movies

The actor marked his debut with ‘Nejaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero’, helmed by Shyam Benegal. He also featured in films like ‘Barfi!’, ‘Piku’, ‘Durgamati’, and ‘Mardaani’.Reportedly, he will next feature in Akshay Kumar’s film titled ‘Bhoot Bangla’. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film also stars Tabu and Paresh Rawal. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2026.
