Jesy Nelson, Zion Foster split: Couple to co-parent after breakup

Jesy Nelson and Zion Foster split weeks after daughters’ SMA diagnosis but are ‘united in co-parenting’ - Reports

Jesy Nelson and fiancé Zion Foster have reportedly ended their engagement, just weeks after revealing their twin daughters’ SMA Type 1 diagnosis. While no longer a couple, they are committed to co-parenting their 8-month-old babies. SMA Type 1 is a severe genetic disorder causing progressive muscle weakness, impacting breathing and swallowing in infants.

As per recent reports, former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson and fiancé Zion Foster have allegedly called it quits on their relationship. The news comes only weeks after the star revealed that their daughters have been diagnosed with the rare SMA Type 1 diagnosis.

Jesy Nelson and Zion Foster have separated

The Daily Mail reported that the singer had split with her long-time beau and former fiancé recently. Nelson was also spotted without her famous engagement ring during her appearance on ‘The Morning’ show. Another report from The Sun stated that while the couple is no longer together, they have chosen to stay together as co-parents to their 8-month-old baby girls. The statement from the report read, “She and Zion remain friends and are fully focused on their daughters. They are fully united in co-parenting. Their priority continues to be the well-being of their daughters.”The couple had been together for almost three years before they finally got engaged in September last year.

What is SMA, Type 1?

A few weeks ago, Nelson took to her social media account to share the news that her two 8-month-old twin daughters have been diagnosed with a rare disorder called SMA, Type 1, or spinal muscular atrophy. She shared that at first, since the doctors had told her that they were born premature, so they would not hit the same milestones as other babies, she was not worried. However, after her mother pointed out their symptoms again and again, she finally went through a lot of doctor’s appointments, after which her daughters were finally diagnosed.According to The Cleveland Clinic, SMA is “a genetic condition that causes worsening muscle weakness. There are five subtypes, which range in severity and age of onset. There’s no cure for SMA, but certain therapies and medications can help manage symptoms.” There are reportedly five subtypes of SMA; the singers’ daughters have been diagnosed with Type 1.Type 1 SMA is described as “About 60% of SMA cases are type 1 – also called Werdnig-Hoffman disease. Symptoms arise within the first six months of life and include limited head control and decreased muscle tone (hypotonia). Infants with type 1 SMA also have difficulty swallowing and breathing.”
