Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ became a massive blockbuster at the box office. The film went on to earn Rs 75 crore on the first day of its release. Now, in a recent interview, its co-producer, Gaurav Verma, shared that they wanted to achieve this box office goal, and hence, the film team made sure for a solo release of the movie. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, co-producer Gaurav Verma stated that Shah Rukh Khan’s production house had set the goal of Rs 75 crore first-day collection from the beginning. The movie was supposed to release in June; however, it was pushed to September due to post-production work. Talking about the same, Verma shared, ”
He said, “From the very start, that was the aim. Hence, we were looking for not just a solo release but also possibly a date where there’s limited or negligible competition from a holdover release as well.” The producer expressed that the makers made calls to make that happen. Verma said, “We called up everyone to ask if they were coming on July 28 or August 11 as scheduled.”

In the same interview, Gaurav Verma stated that SRK’s production house checked with Karan Johar for ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’ and Bhushan Kumar to ask about the release date of ‘Animal’. The co-producer revealed that they made calls to Ekta Kapoor’s production team for ‘Dream Girl 2’ and the makers of ‘Gadar 2’ for its release date. He said, “This is how we chose a date, which was solo.”
Gaurav Verma reveals they wanted no competition from South cinema as well
In the interview, Gaurav Verma went on to reveal that they “made sure” that there was no release in the Tamil and Telugu industries as well. The producer stated that they took such steps because SRK is a pan-India star. He said, “So, the idea was that there should be no competition in any language, and Jawan becomes the only choice. We didn’t want any interference and lose even one show, as that would have affected our eventual aim (of record numbers).”Elaborating further, Verma stated that fewer shows in theaters would have meant that the film would have collected less. He concluded, saying, “I am glad our strategy worked and that Jawan broke all records, as was our intention.”
