Is Rohit Saraf set to be a part of ‘Heer Ranjha’?

Is Rohit Saraf set to be a part of 'Heer Ranjha'? Here's what we know!

After ‘Laila Majnu’, now Sajid Ali is set to make ‘Heer Ranjha’. The film is announced recently and it will be backed by Imtiaz Ali along with Ektaa R Kapoor. It seems Imtiaz collaborate again with his brother Sajid. The makers unveiled the project with a short teaser video on Saturday. The clip did not feature any actors but offered a melodic score and a glimpse into a tragic romance. Its caption read, “Some Love stories never die… From Laila Majnu to Heer Ranjha – The Love Legacy Continues.” Meanwhile, a report suggested that Rohit Saraf of ‘Mismatched’ fame has been locked in to play Ranjha in the film.On Saturday, Variety India reported that Rohit Saraf would headline Sajid Ali’s Heer Ranjha. “While the cast has not been officially announced, Variety India has exclusively learned that Rohit Saraf is locked to play Ranjha,” the report stated. However another report has denied this claim now. Hindustan Times has quoted a source saying that there’s no truth to this. According to insiders quoted by the portal, the report is inaccurate and casting discussions are ongoing. An official confirmation regarding the film’s leads is expected in due course. The makers are still in the process of locking the lead pair.

In an official statement of ‘Heer Ranjha’, the team described the film as being “rooted in classic romance yet shaped for today’s time, Heer Ranjha reimagines love for a new generation, promising a poetic and emotionally immersive cinematic experience. The title reveal has already sparked strong excitement among fans of the Laila Majnu franchise.” Production is expected to begin once the cast is finalised.Sajid Ali’s ‘Laila Majnu’, starring Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, received critical appreciation upon release but struggled commercially, earning just Rs 3 crore during its initial theatrical run. Over time, it developed a devoted fan base, leading to a re-release in 2025 that added Rs 11 crore to its box office. The film has achieved a cult status over time.
