India’s Women’s World Cup win sparks calls for ‘Chak De! India 2’

India wins the 2025 Women’s World Cup: Netizens draw parallels between Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chak De! India’ character and coach Amol Muzumdar’s story, calling for a sequel

India’s historic win at the 2025 Women’s World Cup brought back the season of celebration for the entire nation. On the one hand, where elated fans can’t help but shower their love on the women’s cricket team, on the other hand, a lot of netizens have drawn parallels between the reel coach Kabir Khan played by Shah Rukh Khan from ‘Chak De! India’ and the real-life coach of Women in Blue, Amol Muzumdar. Some netizens even pointed out how this win lays down the perfect script for the sequel of ‘Chak De! India.’

What’s common between Shah Rukh Khan from ‘Chak De! India’ and Women’s cricket team coach Amol Muzumdar?

In the movie ‘Chak De! India,’ Shah Rukh Khan’s character, Kabir Khan, was called a traitor after losing a crucial match to Pakistan. Still, he found redemption when he coached the Indian women’s hockey team and led them to victory against Australia in the World Cup. Amol Muzumdar, on the other hand, was a young player who never played on international ground despite scoring over 11,000 runs in First-Class cricket. He later became coach to India’s women’s cricket team, which on Sunday brought home the first Women’s World Cup!Both Kabir Khan and Amol Muzumdar found their passion and victory in coaching and trained their respective teams to win the World Cup trophies.Further, just like SRK, as Kabir Khan was seen in tears post the victory of the hockey game, Amol Muzumdar was seen with wet eyes as his team won the World Cup, creating the perfect ‘Maula Mere Lele Meri Jaan’ moment.Last but not least, ironically enough, the big win happened on Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday!

The Internet draws parallels between Amol Muzumdar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabir Khan from Chak De! India.

A cricket fan with all the facts and background wrote – “Here is the perfect script for a Chak De India sequel :He’s Amol Muzumdar, one of the most prolific batters in Indian domestic cricket. On his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in 1994, he scored 260. Nicknamed the “New Tendulkar”, he was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He dominated domestic cricket for 21 years, scoring over 11,000 runs at an average of nearly 50, yet, for some reason, he never got a single chance to play for India. Players with far inferior records, like Shiv Sunder Das, Gagan Khoda and several others, played for India, but not him.He retired in 2012 and moved into coaching. In October 2023, he was appointed head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team at a time when the team was struggling for stability. He led them to an ICC final after eight years, and eventually, to their first-ever World Cup title.” Another internet user shared the final clip of Shah Rukh Khans reaction after the big win in the movie and wrote – “winning the wc on srk hbd this is literally the perfect reaction video for the match.” ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ and ‘Srikanth’ writer Sumit Purohit, mentioned that this winning story “every element of a great film” in it. Here are a few more internet reactions
