‘Idli Kadai’ box office collections day 20: Dhanush’s film slows

‘Idli Kadai’ box office collections day 20: Dhanush’s film mints only Rs 11 lakhs; Steep dips continue

Dhanush’s recent cinematic endeavor, ‘Idli Kadai,’ finds itself in troubled waters at the box office, with earnings dropping to a paltry few lakhs a day. Although it performed reasonably well in local regions, the film’s initial success appears to be waning, signaling an end to its time on the big screen.

The latest box-office figures for the Dhanush-starrer Idli Kadai reveal a sharp decline in its theatrical run.According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film managed a small amount of Rs 11 lakhs net in the Tamil version on Day 20. This follows Rs 9 lakhs on Day 19 and just Rs 5 lakhs on Day 17.The cumulative India net collections stand at around Rs 50.2 crore and India gross at Rs 59.04 crore.

Tamil leads but tailed off fast

In its Tamil version alone, Idli Kadai has collected approximately Rs 46.72 crore net by Day 20. Despite this relatively strong regional showing, the film’s daily business is slowing down, indicating a soon washout from the theatres.Meanwhile, the film’s overseas collection stands at around Rs 12.5 crore, bringing the worldwide tally to Rs 71.54 crore and earning the verdict “Average.”

Sentimental theme may have limited its mass hold

‘Idli Kadai’, directed by and starring Dhanush, is a story about a young man who gives up a rich in-law marriage to rediscover his roots by running his father’s idli shop and standing up to a powerful millionaire’s son. The film’s core themes of nostalgia and sentimentality — recurrent in Dhanush’s filmography — connection with a section of the audience. In our official ETimes review, we noted that the emotional load at times felt overwhelming and may not have translated into sustained mass appeal. The movie is expected to end it’s theatrical run soon. Dhanush’s previous outing was ‘Kuberaa’.
