How Yash ran away with Rs 300

Throwback: How Yash ran away with Rs 300 and conquered Indian cinema with 'KGF'

Once a timid young man with only Rs 300 to his name, Yash has transformed into a nationwide icon. Armed with a dream and his parents’ tough love, he ventured into the world of acting. Starting from the ground up, his regional success eventually snowballed into international acclaim with the ‘KGF’ series.

Superstar Yash rose to fame with the blockbuster ‘KGF’ franchise. Portraying an unwavering, unapologetic, swagger “Rocky Bhai”, he won the audience’s hearts where he would enter the KGF mines and rule over it. Let’s look back to the time when, in real life, he came to Bengaluru as scared and with Rs 300 in his hands.

The struggle behind the star

During a 2019 interview with The News Minute, the ‘Ramayana’ actor opened up about the struggles he faced while trying to enter the film industry. “I ran off from my home. When I came to Bengaluru, I was scared to be in such a big and intimidating city. But, I was confident and wasn’t scared of struggle. I had just 300 rupees in my pocket when I reached Bengaluru. I knew if I went back, my parents would never allow me to return here. My parents gave me an ultimatum. I was free to try my luck as an actor but after that, if it didn’t work out, I had to do what they asked me to,” he had shared.

Humble beginnings

Yash’s real name is Naveen Kumar Gowda, and he hails from a modest background. His father, Arun Kumar, worked as a bus driver with Karnataka Roadways and Bangalore Metro Roadways. Born on January 8, 1986, Yash’s fascination with acting started at an early age. He began his journey as a theatre artist and later appeared in several television shows before stepping into the Kannada film industry.

The ‘KGF’ phenomenon

Gradually, he made a name for himself in regional cinema, earning recognition for his performances. However, it was the ‘KGF’ franchise that made him a pan-India star. ‘KGF’, directed by Prashanth Neel, became a landmark film in Indian cinema, where the first movie made over Rs 238 crore worldwide and the second film went on to collect Rs 1200 crore globally as per Sacnilk. Now, after such a feast, he has two projects lined up, ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Growns-Ups’ directed by Geetu Mohandas and the other is ‘Ramayana’ directed by Nitesh Tiwari starring alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.Yash has announced that ‘KGF 3’ will also happen, however, they are currently not working on it. They want to give their undivided attention to the project after completing the already announced films. Go to Source
