The actor was born on January 12, 1942, in LA, California, and started his career in films in 1964 with ‘Ensign Pulver.’ A year later, he landed a role in one of his most famous works, ‘Gunsmoke’, where he played the role of Ben Lukens in a guest role. The creators of the show were heavily impressed with his acting skills and presence on screen, and he was later given a more permanent role on the show.He reentered the ‘Gunsmoke’ universe as Marshal Thad Greenwood, which he played for two years until September 1967. He appeared in over 50 episodes of the hit American TV show before his character was written off.This show was a dream come true for Ewing, as he had been a fan of the show since his high school years, when he performed in a parody play inspired by it. He attended college for about a year and even worked as a lifeguard before dropping everything and venturing into his passion for acting.
