Gunshots outside Rohit Shetty's residence: Mumbai Police registers FIR; confirm 'Someone fired at the building'

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty was in the headlines on Sunday morning, after news reports claimed that unidentified persons opened fire outside his residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area, early Sunday morning. .While there were no reports of any injury, initial reports claimed that the Mumbai police were called to the spot after ‘gunshot sounds’ were heard in the area. Various photos and videos from the area also confirmed heightened police presence in the wee hours of the morning, with security teams conducting a sweep of the area following the incident.

Time of the shooting

As reported by IANS, police sources informed the portal that the incident occurred between 12:30 and 1:00 AM on Sunday.While reports claimed that four rounds of shots were heard in the area, the exact number of shooters is still unknown, as the suspects managed to escape from the scene.

New footage reveals bullet marks

As per a report on IANS, bullet marks were allegedly visible on one of the glass panels of the balcony of the director’s building. The report states that three bullet holes were found on the building.

Police begin investigation

Rohit Shetty’s home has two gates, and more than 10 CCTV cameras across the tower. As part of the investigation, four to five teams of the Crime Branch are now combing through over 100 nearby CCTV footages in search of the culprits.The police are also reportedly trying to trace the escape route of the attackers.

Security tightened outside Rohit Shetty’s building

As soon as the incident was reported in the early hours of the morning, senior officers of the Mumbai Police and teams from the Mumbai Crime Branch arrived at the residence. For security reasons, the entire area was also cordoned off with members of the Juhu police and crime branch conducting their investigations. Various security personnel were spotted in the area with flashlights in the wee hours of the morning, conducting their sweep. It must be noted that this firing incident took place in Juhu, one of the city’s most upscale neighborhoods, where several Bollywood celebrities live.

Cops confirm shooting

Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti officially confirmed the firing in a statement that read, “Someone fired on the building. Zonal police and crime branch teams are investigating.” The Mumbai Police and Crime Branch are reportedly investigating the matter.

FIR registered

As per a report on PTI, an FIR was registered in connection with the incident, he added.

Motive unknown

The exact motive behind the firing is not known till now.

Gunshots near celebrity homes

News of the firing outside Rohit Shetty’s home comes just days after Kamaal R. Khan was arrested by the Mumbai Police for his involvement in a firing incident at a residential building in Oshiwara. According to the Mumbai Police, a review of CCTV footage from the area and after speaking to several people, the police took the actor into custody for questioning. It was reported that during the questioning, the actor admitted that the firing was done with his licensed gun.Khan was later sent to judicial custody for two weeks after he was produced before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday at the end of his police custody. However, on Friday, he was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000.Previously, a firing at Salman Khan’s Bandra residence in 2024 flagged off one of the biggest investigations. Two men on a bike were seen opening fire at the actor’s residence in the early hours of the morning before fleeing the spot. Several arrests were made in the months following the shooting. As reported by PTI, the shooters reportedly opened fire with the “intention or knowledge” to kill the actor on the instigation of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol, a Mumbai court said while denying bail to an accused in the case.
