With his colourful style, unbeatable comic timing and dance moves that became a rage, he earned the title of ‘Hero No. 1’. From humble beginnings today, Govinda lives a life filled with luxury, proving that the star who ruled the big screen continues to shine just as brightly off it.

Govinda’s film career

Govinda made his acting debut in ‘Ilzaam’ in 1986. From then on, there was no looking back. With his back-to-back collaborations with director David Dhawan, he became the king of comedy in Bollywood. Films like ‘Coolie No. 1’ and ‘Hero No. 1’ made him a household name and added massively to his wealth.Even when his career faced a slowdown, Govinda returned strongly with hits like ‘Partner’ and ‘Bhagam Bhag’. These films once again proved his talent and versatility.

Govinda’s wealth and earnings

According Goodreturns, News24 and multiple reports, Govinda’s net worth is estimated at Rs 170 crore. He is said to charge up to Rs 6 crore for a film and around Rs 2 crore for every brand endorsement.Govinda has also tried his hand in politics and production. Between 2004 and 2009, he served as a Member of Parliament. Though his political and production ventures had mixed results, they showed his desire to explore beyond acting.

Govinda’s lavish properties

Govinda has invested a big part of his wealth in real estate, owning multiple luxurious properties across India. Govinda and Sunita’s divorce rumours spark headlines

Recently, Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja’s divorce rumours created quite a buzz. As per a report by Hauterrfly, Sunita Ahuja filed for divorce in Bandra Family Court in December 2024 under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The petition accused Govinda of adultery, cruelty and desertion. It further mentioned that he often skipped court hearings and did not attend mandatory counselling, while Sunita was present at every proceeding.

Family friend defends the marriage

Despite the reports of separation, a close family friend told ETimes that while Govinda and Sunita do have fights, sometimes even violent ones, they would never separate permanently. The friend added that after arguments, Govinda usually moves to his other bungalow and returns once things have calmed down. The same family friend also gave a stronger opinion on why a permanent split looks unlikely, “Govinda would never leave Sunita. He will be finished without her. She anchors him, controls his moods. Without her, he will be lost. Even if matters have gone to court, and I am not saying, they have, the couple will sort out their differences, as they always do.”DISCLAIMER: Figures presented in this article are derived from various public sources and are considered approximate unless explicitly noted.
