'Ghostbusters' actress Jennifer Runyon passes away at 65 after 'long and arduous journey'

Jennifer Runyon, best known for her roles in the film ‘Ghostbusters’ and the television sitcom ‘Charles in Charge’, has sadly passed away at the age of 65, her family announced in a statement.The news of her death was posted online by her family in a statement on Facebook. In the post, the family revealed that Jennifer had passed away on Friday night after a prolonged health struggle.

The post read, “This past Friday night our beloved Jennifer passed away. It was a long and arduous journey that ended with her surrounded by her family.”

Her family added that she would “always be remembered for her love of life and her devotion to her family and friends,” concluding the message with, “Rest in peace our Jenn.”While the post indicated that her death came after a long illness, the family did not release an official cause of death or disclose the health issue she had been battling.

Jennifer Runyon’s popular film and television roles

Runyon was part of the cast of the 1984 horror-comedy ‘Ghostbusters’, directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The film went on to become one of the defining comedies of the decade and gave way to multiple spinoffs. Although she stepped away from Hollywood, Runyon remained a popular name for fans of her work during on American TV and cinema.During the 1980s and early 1990s, Runyon’s career spanned across television and film. She had a prominent role as Gwendolyn Pierce in the popular sitcom ‘Charles in Charge’ and also appeared in the long-running daytime drama ‘Another World’. Her television credits also included guest appearances on series such as ‘Quantum Leap’ and ‘Murder, She Wrote’.
