Farhan Akhtar in talks to play Pakistani cricketer in Aamir Khan’s next film amid 'Don 3' FWICE row with Ranveer Singh

While the ongoing controversy surrounding ‘Don 3’ continues to make headlines, filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar is reportedly exploring a new acting project. According to reports, Akhtar could reunite with filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker for an upcoming period drama backed by Aamir Khan and Aamir Khan Productions. The film is said to revolve around cricket icon Lala Amarnath and is set during the time of India’s Partition.

Farhan Akhtar considered for a crucial cameo

Although Farhan Akhtar is already attached to the project as a producer, reports stated by Mid-Day suggest that he may also take up an important on-screen role. He is reportedly being considered to portray a renowned Pakistani cricketer who shares a deep emotional connection with Lala Amarnath. The report stated that even though it’s an extended cameo, Farhan’s role is emotionally pivotal to the narrative. He plays Lala Amarnath’s close friend, who remains in Pakistan after the Partition. The film isn’t just about cricket; it’s about friendship during one of the most turbulent moments in the subcontinent’s history. Ashutosh has asked Farhan to consider the role, but it’s not locked yet.The role is believed to add emotional depth to the film, which aims to blend sports with the human impact of Partition and fractured friendships across borders.

Film Marks Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s reunion

The project has already generated strong curiosity as it is expected to reunite Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker more than two decades after their acclaimed collaboration on ‘Lagaan’. The upcoming film will reportedly trace the journey of Lala Amarnath, who became independent India’s first cricket captain and also scored the country’s first-ever Test century in 1933.With cricket, history and personal relationships forming the emotional core of the story, the film is shaping up to be an ambitious period drama.

‘Don 3’ dispute with Ranveer Singh keeps Farhan Akhtar in the spotlight

At the same time, Farhan Akhtar has been in the news due to the controversy surrounding ‘Don 3’ and actor Ranveer Singh. Reports claim that Akhtar and Excel Entertainment co-founder Ritesh Sidhwani approached the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) following Singh’s alleged exit from the film.It has also been reported that a compensation demand of Rs 45 crore was made against Ranveer Singh over losses allegedly suffered during the film’s pre-production phase.
