Fans dub Ayushmann Khurrana the ‘Captain America’ of MHCU after Thamma, but he says no Western comparisons are needed

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thamma is making waves at the box office. The film, the fifth installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), has emerged as a special milestone for Ayushmann, marking his career-best opener on Diwali.Recently, the actor hosted an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Instagram, interacting with fans and replying to their messages. During the session, one fan called him the ‘Captain America’ of MHCU. Ayushmann politely responded, emphasizing the uniqueness of the Indian horror-comedy universe.

“No comparison, this is our desi universe”

When asked, “How do you feel being the Captain America of MHCU?”, Ayushmann said, “Mat kar lala. Nahi chahiye hume bahar ki validation. No comparison, this is our desi universe. So Thamma is Thamma.”On being asked about the film’s strong box office performance, he added, “Yaar neend achhi aa rahi hai. Matlab pehle bhi aati thi, par ab aur bhi aa rahi hai. Thamma is very special. Meri pehli badi film hai Diwali par aayi hai. Pehle main Diwali par sirf filmein dekhta tha, ab dikha raha hu. Ek Chandigarh ke launde ka sapna pura hua hai.”He also shared his excitement about the MHCU universe, calling it the “best Indian universe” and hinting at future expansions: “Ever expanding. Merger jo hone wale hain aage, crazy hone wala hai.”

Box office numbers

According to Sacnilk, Thamma earned Rs 24 crore net across India on its opening day, followed by an impressive Rs 18.6 crore on its second day. The film maintained momentum on day three, taking the total collection to Rs 55.10 crore in just three days. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma features Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok, Rashmika Mandanna as Tadaka, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Yakshasan, the king of darkness who threatens their love story. Adding to the excitement, Malaika Arora made a striking appearance in a special dance number, Poison Baby.
