He shared that many moviegoers are now opting for the comfort of home viewing, unless a film boasts extraordinary spectacle, catchy soundtracks, or a strong love story.

Emraan Hashmi recently shared that the audience shows up at the theaters just to watch spectacle movies. Expressing his concerns about the state of theatrical business, the actor said that the time between theatrical release and digital debut has also affected the footfalls in cinema halls. Let’s learn what he has to say in detail.

Emraan Hashmi comments on Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘One Battle After Another’

In an interview with PTI, Emraan Hashmi shared that the time between theatrical and OTT release is about four to six weeks, and hence, people skip cinema halls sometimes to watch it from the comfort of their homes. The actor added that if the movie doesn’t have elements like hit songs, romance, and more, it fails to pull the audience to the theaters. He said, “They’re like, ‘We will watch this at home in like four to six weeks.'”When he was asked to comment on Leonardo DiCaprio’s statement about theatrical business being in a “worrisome state,” Emraan Hashmi said, “It is worrisome.”Citing the example of the Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio film ‘One Battle After Another’, the Bollywood actor said, “If you see his latest film, ‘One Battle After Another’, it tanked. Probably ten years back, it wouldn’t have. But right now, that film has become, ‘Let’s watch it on OTT. It seems like that indie film.'”He went on to share that earlier, such a thought didn’t exist, and hence, “It has become very difficult.”

Emraan Hashmi talks about how people just wants to watch big movies in theaters

In the same conversation, Emraan Hashmi shared, “The thing is, it has become extremely difficult for theatrical films to put stuff out there. There is a lot of stuff that you feel should go on OTT because it is concept driven.”The actor further expressed that he has been making careful choices, as he doesn’t want to repeat what he did in his career previously. He said that things have become difficult for theatrical releases in the current times. Elaborating on the same, he said, “Everyone is, to put it mildly, scared of picking up something that is theatrical and weighing the pros and cons of what would work and what would not work. So, when something explosive comes in theatrical or OTT, I pick that up. The rejection process is a little more elaborate.”The actor also added that the rise of multiplexes and high ticket prices are the reason behind the “worrisome” state of theatrical business. On the work front, Emraan Hashmi’s next web series, ‘Taskaree’, is set to arrive on Netflix on January 14, 2026.
