Emilia Clarke on her box office flops, reveals why she is more selective now: 'Terminator Genisys should never have happened'

Emilia Clarke has slowly become one of the most revered names in Hollywood. The star has many blockbuster hits in her portfolio. However, some films did not hit the mark. While opening up about her career and the projects she has worked on, Clarke weighed in on those she felt did not perform well.

While she is best known for her work in ‘Game of Thrones’, Clarke has also worked in the ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Terminator’ franchises. In conversation with Variety, she weighed in on how some projects, specifically ‘Terminator Genisys,’ should never have happened. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a critic rating of only 22%, while the audience rating reached only 52%.Talking about it, she added, “‘Terminator’? That should never have happened. But these were jobs I said yes to, you know what I mean? I entered into already existing franchises…so when they don’t work out, it’s not personal.”She further added that her show, ‘Secret Invasion,’ which marked her entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with her film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story,’ both had a very bad reception. “I don’t think anyone liked that show, guys. I’m sorry!”, she commented further.As to how these failures have affected her, Clarke is now more adamant about what she works on next. She shared during the interview that she is far more selective with the projects she greenlights compared to how she used to be. “My connection to a project ends when they say, ‘Picture wrap.’ Because it’s not for me to decide what people will think of it,” she concluded.On the work front, Clarke last appeared in the animated film, ‘The Twits,’ last year. Next, she is prepping for her upcoming film, ‘Next Life,’ which is currently in post-production and focuses on Ivy as she navigates love and life through a set of parallel universes and different timelines. She will be starring opposite Édgar Ramírez, Femi Koleoso, and Jack Farthing.
