‘Ek Din’ fails to impress; Junaid-Sai’s film opens with only Rs 1.15 cr

‘Ek Din’ box office day 1: Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi’s love drama fails to impress; opens with only Rs 1.15 crore

When Junaid Khan made his debut with ‘Maharaj’ on OTT, he garnered a lot of appreciation. Thereafter came his first theatrical release, ‘Loveyappa’ opposite Khushi Kapoor, which underperformed at the box office. However, when released on a digital platform, the film did receive decent reviews. Now in 2026, Junaid Khan has again made it back to the big screen with a love drama titled ‘Ek Din.’ He stars alongside one of the South’s most loved stars, Sai Pallavi, who made her Hindi debut with this movie. Yet, it seems neither this pairing nor the buzz of Sai’s Hindi debut could bring the audience to the theatres. As released on May 1, 2026, ‘Ek Din’ saw a slow opening at the box office; it minted a little over Rs 1 crore.

‘Ek Din’ box office day 1 update

According to Sacnilk, ‘Ek Din’ opened with Rs 1.15 crore on Friday, with a low occupancy of 14.3% across 1,961 shows. The movie didn’t have any direct new Hindi release competition, as its release window gave enough time for even Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhooth Bangla’ to enjoy its run. In recent times, after Bollywood’s triumph with films like ‘Dhurandhar 2,’ impressive numbers with ‘Bhooth Bangla,’ ‘Ek Din’ has failed to leave an impact on the audience. Meanwhile, ‘Raja Shivaji’ took the lead at the box office. Released in Marathi and Hindi, the movie impressed all. It opened with over Rs 11 crore at the ticket counter, and is receiving positive words from the netizens.

About ‘Ek Din’

‘Ek Din’ shows a conventional romantic set-up, where Dinesh Kumar Srivastav, aka Dino, is a sincere, socially awkward nerd who falls in love with his co-worker, the beautiful Meera Ranganathan. Of course, the girl is unaware of his feelings, as he is her secret admirer, and someone he feels is way out of his league. Thus, on an office trip to Japan, Dino, as a hopeless romantic, makes a wish at the famous Fortune Bell that Meera also falls for him for just one day. Least did he know that his one wish was the recipe of chaos!DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
