DYK Rishab had asked Ranveer not to mimic daivas before his act?

Ranveer Singh mocking the Daiva controversy: Did you know Rishab Shetty had asked the Bollywood actor not to mimic the deities before his stage act?

At the International Film Festival of India, Ranveer Singh’s attempt to embody a deity from ‘Kantara’ ignited backlash, disregarding Rishab Shetty’s earlier plea for caution. Singh’s unexpected twist, referring to the deity as a ‘female ghost’ and reenacting a pivotal scene, led to a wave of criticism on social media for perceived disrespect.

Ranveer Singh and Rishab Shetty were in attendance at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa. At the event, the Bollywood actor praised the Kannada star’s performance in ‘Kantara’. However, after a video of him calling the Daiva a “female ghost” and mimicking the sequence, Singh faced a massive backlash on social media. However, did you know Rishab had already told the high-on-energy actor to not mimic the deity before he went on stage?

Rishab Shetty requested Ranveer Singh not to mimic Daiva on stage

A source close to the event told the Bangalore Times that Rishab Shetty had requested to stop his act at the International Film Festival of India. The source stated, “Ranveer came down from the stage to greet the guests, including Rajinikanth and Rishab (Shetty). The moment he saw Rishab, he got excited and began mimicking the Daiva, which Rishab asked him to stop—though politely.”The source revealed that the Bollywood actor went back on stage and tried to recreate the scene once again. As per the source, “His intention wasn’t wrong, but referring to the Daiva as a ‘female ghost’ and performing the act while wearing shoes shocked many. Rishab stayed calm and chose not to escalate it at such a high-profile event.”

More about the viral video

In the viral video, the actor can be heard saying, “I watched ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ in theaters, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body—that shot was amazing.” He went on to recreate the scene and then asked the audience if they want him to see in ‘Kantara 3’.This irked the netizens, and they asked Singh to be sensitive towards such topics.

About Ranveer Singh and ‘Kantara 2’

The actor will next feature in Aditya Dhar’s multi-starrer film ‘Dhurandhar’. It is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2025. Meanwhile, Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ went on to earn over Rs 700 crore globally. Released on October 2, 2025, the film starred Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.
