‘Driver’: Diljit reveals facing racist comments in Australia

‘Uber driver aa gaya’: Diljit Dosanjh reveals facing racist comments on his arrival in Australia

After his arrival in Australia for the AURA World Tour, renowned Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh encountered hurtful online comments, branding him as just ‘an Uber driver’ or a ‘7/11 employee.’ In the face of such slurs, Diljit maintained his composure, promoting a message of universal love and reflecting on his belief in a world free from borders.

Diljit Dosanjh is currently busy with his AURA World Tour, pulling massive crowds at every concert. Amidst all the excitement, the Punjabi sensation recently shared that he faced racism—even in today’s day and age. The singer spoke about receiving demeaning comments online after landing in Australia.

Diljit Dosanjh shares an incident of facing racism in Australia

Ahead of his Sydney concert, Diljit shared a behind-the-scenes video of himself preparing for the performance. In the clip, he can be seen walking across the CommBank Stadium stage in Sydney to check the equipment and address some technical glitches.Soon after, he opened up about a troubling experience following his arrival in the country. Diljit said someone sent him the comments under a video posted by a paparazzo showing his arrival. He recalled, “When I landed in Australia, some agencies reported it. Someone sent me the comments section of one of those reports. People were saying things like, ‘Uber driver aa gaya (The new Uber driver is here),’ or ‘The new 7/11 employee has landed.’ I have seen a lot of these racist comments.”The singer-actor added that people continue to fight against racism because of the struggles they’ve endured to carve out a space for themselves. “I think the world should be one, and there should be no borders,” he said.

What does Diljit Dosanjh think about the negativity?

In the same video, Diljit made it clear that such comments don’t affect him. “I don’t mind being compared to a cab or truck driver. If truck drivers cease to exist, you won’t get bread for your home. I’m not angry, and my love goes out to everyone—even the ones who say such things about me,” he shared.

Work front

Apart from his ongoing AURA World Tour, Diljit Dosanjh will next be seen in ‘Border 2’.
